UCU can help members with the legal requirements for settlement agreements such as are used in voluntary redundancy and mutually agreed resignation (MARS).

You can use your own solicitor or you can use the union’s solicitor, Thompsons. To be referred to Thompsons, members should send the following details to the UCU Regional Office at westmidlands@ucu.org.uk:

• A copy of the draft settlement agreement
• Your consent for UCU to forward on your personal information to Thompsons – including your home address, contact telephone number and email address
• The name, job title and contact details of the HR person dealing with the settlement agreement

Once the office has received the above information it is sent on to Thompsons. A telephone appointment will then be arranged for one of the solicitors to discuss the terms of the settlement agreement with you before it is signed and returned to the university
